Well, the spell sez that it can be altered due to the plant's nature- just make it have a radius of 5 feet with a potted plant.

Entangle does make it grow
. Although at least its semi-realistic entangling only one creature instead of the full zone it normally would.

Where were you when I tried to pull this trick as a druid? Too bad I've had 3 separate gamemasters tell me I couldn't do Entangle with a potted plant, mainly because it's hard to cover ~120 square feet with a potted tulip.
